Embark on an unforgettable journey through Zanzibar’s rich history and cultural diversity with our combined Stone Town and Prison Island Tour. This immersive full-day excursion invites you to explore the unique charm of Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the intriguing history of Prison Island, also known as Changuu Island.

Historical Stone Town: Your journey begins in the enchanting Stone Town, where history echoes off the ancient buildings and narrow alleyways. With architecture that reflects a blend of Swahili, Arab, Persian, Indian, and European influences, Stone Town is a vibrant cultural melting pot. Our knowledgeable guide will walk you through the town’s winding lanes, pointing out significant landmarks, including the Sultan’s Palace, the Old Fort, and the House of Wonders.

You’ll have the chance to visit the bustling local markets, where the aroma of exotic spices fills the air. Engage with friendly vendors, sample local delicacies, and perhaps pick up souvenirs. The tour also includes a sobering visit to the former Slave Market, a poignant reminder of Zanzibar’s dark past in the slave trade.

Intriguing Prison Island: The second part of the tour takes you to Prison Island, a short boat ride from Stone Town. Despite its name, the island never functioned as a prison; instead, it served as a quarantine station during the yellow fever epidemic. You’ll explore the old quarantine facility and learn about its history.

One of the main attractions of Prison Island is the sanctuary for the giant Aldabra tortoises, some of which are over 100 years old. You’ll have the chance to interact with these majestic creatures, a unique and memorable experience.

The island is also an ideal spot for snorkeling, with crystal-clear waters and vibrant coral reefs teeming with colorful fish. If you’d instead relax, the white sandy beaches are perfect for sunbathing, offering stunning ocean views.

A Blend of History and Natural Beauty: This combined Stone Town and Prison Island tour offers a unique mix of Zanzibar’s historical significance and natural beauty. You’ll get an insight into the rich cultural tapestry of Zanzibar while also enjoying its breathtaking marine life and scenic landscapes. The tour is educational and provides plenty of opportunities for relaxation and enjoyment.

Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a nature lover, or simply looking for an immersive experience in Zanzibar, this tour has something for everyone. Join us to step back in time and explore Zanzibar’s fascinating heritage and natural wonders.
