carved-door neighborhoods, market areas and important historic landmarks.
You will learn how African, Arab, Indian and European influences shaped the city.
After the walking tour, continue by vehicle to Jozani Forest for a guided nature
walk, responsible red colobus monkey observation and, when accessible, a visit

Stone Town developed through centuries of Indian Ocean trade and cultural
exchange. Its buildings, places of worship, markets and waterfront reflect
connections between East Africa, Arabia, India and Europe.
Your guide will explain the history of the old city while leading you through
accessible streets and public areas. The route may include Darajani Market,
carved Zanzibar doors, the former slave market and cathedral area, the Old Fort,
Forodhani Gardens and the House of Wonders waterfront.
Access to museums and historic interiors can change because of opening hours,
restoration, maintenance, events and ticket arrangements. Only entrances shown
in your booking confirmation should be considered guaranteed.
Jozani protects tropical forest, wet areas, coastal vegetation and mangrove
habitats. These connected ecosystems support native plants, birds, butterflies,
primates and other forest wildlife.
During the guided walk, you will learn about the vegetation and look for
Zanzibar red colobus monkeys. This primate is endemic to Zanzibar, meaning
that it occurs naturally nowhere else in the world.
Red colobus monkeys are commonly associated with Jozani, but they remain wild
animals. Their location, visibility and behavior depend on natural conditions.
Keep a respectful distance from all wildlife and follow the guide’s instructions.
Visitors must not touch, feed, call, surround or chase the monkeys.
Avoid flash photography and do not block the animals’ route through trees or
across the forest floor. Children should remain close to a supervising adult.
When the mangrove area is accessible, continue along the raised boardwalk
for an introduction to Zanzibar’s tidal forest environment.
Your guide will explain how specialized root systems help mangrove trees survive
in salty, waterlogged and oxygen-poor soil and how mangroves contribute to
coastal protection.
The order and route may change according to traffic, park access,
museum opening conditions, weather and your pickup location.
Your driver will collect you from your Zanzibar accommodation at
the time confirmed after booking.
Meet your local guide and receive an introduction to the historic city,
walking route and day’s combined experience.
