The Spice Island

Explore Zanzibar’s Aromatic Heritage

Zanzibar has a long connection with Indian Ocean trade and became especially
well known for the cultivation and export of cloves and other spices.
Spice farms remain an important part of the island’s cultural identity.

During the tour, the guide will explain how different plants arrived in
Zanzibar, how they adapted to the tropical climate and how local communities
use them in food, drinks, fragrances and traditional household practices.

The experience is designed to be interactive, but visitors should not pick,
cut or damage plants independently. Touching or tasting should take place
only when the farm guide invites you to do so.

Seasonal experience:
Not every spice, flower or fruit is available throughout the year.
The plants, aromas and tastings offered during your visit depend on the
season, rainfall, harvest cycle and conditions at the selected farm.
